While many anti-virus programs out there are reasonably up-to-date with the latest virus and spyware definitions, and efforts are increasing to prevent advertising software, there are still thousands they can miss.
These programs range from cunning advertising schemes to malicious deployments of destruction. They sneak in like a thief and plant themselves in the system, taking personal information, tracking surfing habits and manipulating the function of the computer for their purposes. At best, they will merely slow the computer down. At worst, they can steal usernames, passwords, and credit card information.
